Challenge With more than 700 employees and an annual turnover of more than 200 million euros, Vandersanden Group is the largest brick-producing family business in Europe. That is a great social responsibility. How do you motivate employees to work safely? Despite the more than 700 employees, Vandersanden sticks to the beliefs that started it all in 1925. You make the most beautiful things together, as one family. And Vandersanden keeps her family safe. The question to Platform 9 is: How do we draw attention to working safely, despite the additional rules and work processes, in a positive way? We do this in a way that suits the Vandersanden family business.
Strategy We strengthen family ties. You do not only work safely for yourself, but also for your own family, close ones, loved ones and friends. That fact is the basis for our campaign. Work safely, because someone is waiting for you, and they want you to get home safely. You are indispensable. In this way we create an intrinsic motivation to work safely. An additional effect is that Vandersanden's core values are emphasized even more. In a characteristic familial 'Vandersanden' way.
Result To make the campaign 100% authentic, we photographed real family members, relatives, friends and loved ones of various employees. All with the same message: Work safely, because you are indispensable. We did this per location, to keep it small-scale and recognizable. We rolled out the campaign through posters and digital information boards in the factories. The best thing about the campaign: the employees were not aware of this. We also created a user-friendly toolbox with clear safety rules, a safety passport and presentations.

We portray friends, relatives, family and loved ones of various Vandersanden employees in their own environment. Honest, authentic and familiar, the characteristic Vandersanden way. They remind their loved ones in the Vandersanden factories that it is important to work safely: 'Work safely, you are indispensable.'
The campaign's key to success: All the relatives were secretly photographed, the Vandersanden employees were not aware of the campaign. We used the element of surprise to make impact!
Working safely in practice: Implementation and rollout
In addition to the campaign, there is the technical part. We concretize safe working. What are the safety rules and do I apply them? How do we implement this in the organization. We created a user-friendly toolbox with clear safety rules, a safety passport and team presentations. No top-down, but bottom-up communication: employees who set a good example themselves. Safety from the people themselves, again in a familiar way that is characteristic of Vandersanden.
