CHALLENGE
PQ Silicas, part of PQ Corporation, is a leading global supplier of specialty catalysts, services and chemicals. HSE management (Health, Safety & Environment) is very important, with safety as the spearhead. Not only for our own employees, but also for external contractors and truck drivers who come to work, load and unload the various plants every day. The large number of external parties creates a number of bottlenecks: 1. The international character of all workers creates a major language barrier, which makes communication difficult. 2. How do we monitor which external contractors are coming and whether they comply with the safety rules. Platform 9 was tasked with developing a solution for this.

STRATEGY
To begin with, we map out which route the visitor takes: the customer journey. We make the following distinction in communication: 1. Safety for contractors 2. Driver safety. After various sessions with PQ's HSE people, we map out the risks and determine the safety rules. We then develop the resources and tools needed to communicate and monitor.

RESULTS

Contractors
A clear framework of safety rules forms the basis and ensures a safe environment for external contractors. They follow a clear step-by-step plan that starts with the intake. Drivers
For drivers there is an instruction on arrival that removes the language barrier. An animation that conveys the message, whatever language the driver speaks. This ensures a smooth and above all safe loading and unloading process.
